Hello parents and guardians! Recently we have been learning about the life cycle of plants and how they grow. We've discussed the essentials plants need to grow (water, air, sunlight, and nutrients from soil).
To further what we have learned in class, I encourage you and your child to try the "Grow a Bean in a Bag" experiment. This activity allows children to watch the bean sprout and grow right in front of their own eyes! Below I attached a video you and your child can watch about how seeds grow.
Instructions for the activity can be found here: Grow a Seed in a Bag & Plant Life Cycles: Simple Science for Kids
During this activity I encourage you to ask and discuss these questions with your child:
- Why do you think the roots grow down?
- What might happen if we didn't give the plant sun or water?
In addition to watching the seeds grow, I encourage you to have your child document the growth of the plant. This could be a drawing of what the seed looks like or a short description.
